Our Pastor

Reverend Dr. Simon P. Bouie (pictured at left with First Lady Willie Bouie) is the current pastor of historic Zion A.M.E. Church located at 21st and Tasker Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Reverend Bouie was transferred from Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Harlem, New York in 2006. He has served as pastor in South Carolina, New York and Philadelphia, where he was the fifty-first pastor of Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, he is a graduate of Allen University there. He received his graduate education from Atlanta University School of Social Work. His seminary degree is from Turner Seminary at Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His clinical training as chaplain was at Crafts Farrow State Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the first black chaplain at Warwick School for Boys in Warwick, New York, where he also served as pastor of Union A.M.E. Church.

Reverend Bouie has been recognized with many outstanding awards, including: the New York State Most Distinguished Award, the Long Island Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Award, the African American of Distinction Award, the African Methodist Episcopal Church Distinguished Award and the New York Annual Conference Outstanding Award.

Reverend Bouie, as a community activist, is deeply involved in the work of the community he serves. He holds several key positions in various organizations. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Masonic Lodge #92, One Hundred Black Men of Long Island, PUSH and the YMCA. He has also served as the chairman of the NAVE Project in Harlem, New York, a forty-million-dollar project for creating affordable housing, and is a life member of the NAACP. He served as president of Harlem Ministerial Interfaith Association and presently serves as president of South Philadelphia Cluster of Churches.

He has been married to Mrs. Willie Omia Jamison of Sharon, South Carolina for over forty years. He also has two sons, Harold and Eric, and three grandchildren, Yu, Shasha and Harold, Jr.
